Starting in 2003, Woodland began a partnership with The Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Chattanooga to build a relationship with youth from Lookout Mountain. For the past three years, youth from Jellico and the Clearfork Valley ages 10-17 attended Camp Bob with youth from the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. The youth have a great time playing sports, participating in arts and crafts, and making new friends. There they can be a kid and learn to trust in themselves and others. This past October, the youth traveled to Chattanooga to visit the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. There they went site-seeing, learned more about the area, and attended church services. Mountain to Mountain provides youth in the area an opportunity to explore their region and their country, meet other youth and adults, and form lasting bonds of friendship.
A new project started in the fall of 2008, TN-KY Helpers offers middle and high school students the opportunity to take on a leadership role in their community.
This year the TN-KY Helpers:
- Organized two successful stream and roadside clean ups
- Participated in a science fair and activity day
- Assisted with other projects
As the youth suggest new projects, Woodland staff will help support them as they make them into a reality. This coming year will be spent working with the youth in developing a program that will give them a more formal training in leadership development, peer to peer exchanges, and an outlet to give them a voice in the challenges that they are facing. If you are in middle or high school and would like to participate in the TN-KY Helpers please contact us at woodland@jellico.com

The mission of the Clearfork Seasonal Market is to nurture and support local production through mountain heritage and culture, while promoting healthy living; involving youththrough education; and cultivating economic development.
For several months, Woodland has been working diligently to make space available to offer sewing classes to individuals in the community. We have received a donation of 12 new sewing machines. The Knoxville Women’s Sewing Guild has made a commitment to assist us with these classes. We hope this will bring about an appreciation of sewing and making crafts and lead to additional economic opportunities.
This year we are collecting stories and memories about quilting in the Clearfork Valley. We will bring these stories together with photographs of the quilts and their creators into a booklet. More Info
As a community we are deciding how best to manage this. In the fall of 2008 the resident associates came together and spoke about how they want the land to be used. Woodland residents have determined that their most important objectives for Woodland’s land include preserving the water supply, planting and protecting native plants, protecting threatened wildlife, repairing stripped land and increasing wildlife populations.
